The Department of Sociology at LSE seeks to appoint a new Chair who will assume the Directorship of the Centre for the Study of Human Rights to replace Professor Conor Gearty, who is leaving the Centre after seven successful years.

Applicants should have a strong background in human rights, preferably from the discipline of Sociology, though otherwise qualified applicants from within the social sciences will be considered.

The Director will provide strategic and intellectual leadership of the Centre for the Study of Human Rights and further develop its programme of teaching, research and outreach. For further information on the Centre for the Study of Human Rights: www.lse.ac.uk/humanrights

Salary will be determined by the Director. The professorial salary scale starts from £64,229 per annum.

This appointment will be from 1 September 2009, or as soon as possible thereafter.
