Applications are invited for the above post based in the School of American and Canadian Studies, incorporating the Institute of Film and Television Studies. The successful candidate will be a specialist in American Thought and Culture and will be able to offer modules that discuss key American ideas and movements in American intellectual history. Specialism in the related fields of American culture and/or American cultural history will be an advantage.

The person appointed will be required to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules in American Intellectual History, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, be involved in assessment processes at all levels, undertake original research and normal administrative duties within the School. If the appointment is made at Associate Professor level, the successful candidate will also be expected to lead the School's Intellectual History unit.

Candidates must have successfully completed a PhD in American Thought and Culture or cognate field by the date of appointment.

The person appointed will be expected to be research active. At lecturer level, a proven record of publications will be an advantage. In the case of an Associate Professor appointment, such a record (books, monographs and/or articles) is essential.

Salary, depending on qualifications and experience, will be within the range:

• Lecturer scale: £32,458 - £43,622 per annum (salary can progress to £50,569 per annum, subject to performance).
• Associate Professor scale: £46,278 - £55,259 per annum (salary can progress to £65,965 per annum, subject to performance).
