TAUGHT MA PHILOSOPHY
The Department of Philosophy at Durham University is now inviting applications for places on the 2009-10 course.
The course comprises six modules: - A Philosophical Research Methods Module (30 credits)
- Three Topic Modules, from a choice of at least eight (30 credits each)
- Double-Module Dissertation (60 credits)
All modules are taught via group seminars and one-to-one tutorials. There is also a two-day conference associated with the dissertation. We have over sixty postgraduate students studying here and are thus home to one of the largest philosophy postgraduate communities in the country. Over twenty students are currently taking our Taught MA in Philosophy. We do everything we can to provide a welcoming, supportive, friendly and stimulating research environment for all our students. Our postgraduate students are invited to participate in a range of activities, including reading groups, research seminars, Royal Institute of Philosophy Lectures and meetings of EIDOS, our postgraduate philosophy society. The Department has an unusually broad range of research interests and expertise, including Aesthetics, Ethics, Environmental philosophy, History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Language, Eastern philosophy, Nineteenth and Twentieth century European Philosophy (especially Phenomenology), Philosophy of Mind, Philosophical Psychology.
