M.Sc. in Research Methods in PsychologyThis course equips students with advanced training in research methods and prepares them for a career involving research. Students conduct a range of empirical projects under supervision. Training is provided in all relevant research skills, including reviewing literature, developing hypotheses, writing research proposals, designing and carrying out empirical studies, conducting advanced statistical and qualitative analyses, and presenting results. Teaching is conducted in seminars, small group lectures, and practical classes, and students' work is assessed primarily through written course work, and reports of empirical research projects. By the end of this training, students will have acquired a wide range of practical research skills, and will have learned to use a range of research tools, such as databases, and statistical software. They will have gained knowledge of the nature and limitations of the scientific method and the main alternatives. In addition, they will have knowledge of the historical, theoretical, and philosophical issues underlying the discipline of Psychology, including the Philosophy of Science. Entry Requirements: Applicants are expected to have at least a 2:2 degree from a U.K. university, or an overseas degree equivalent, in Psychology or a related discipline. English proficiency of IELTS = 6.5, or the equivalent, is required for overseas students. Bursaries: A limited number of student bursaries are available for suitable applicants.
