The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, for which all our full-time and
permanent members of staff were submitted, rated 30% of the Department's
research as world leading, 45% as internationally excellent, 25% as
internationally recognized, and 0% as merely nationally recognized. Our
average score was equal third in the UK, ahead of both Oxford and Cambridge.
