€79,822 - €87,739 per annum. The commencing salary will not exceed point 8 i.e. €54,009 per annum, at a point to accord with the qualifications and experience to date
School of Social Sciences and Philosophy
The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, formed in 2005, consists of the departments of Economics, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology. With over 45 full-time academic staff, the School aims to create a sharper focus for Social Science research and teaching and to facilitate and strengthen ties between the Social Sciences and Philosophy. The School based upon these four departments is unique in Ireland, and offers a larger and more flexible platform upon which to promote existing areas of excellence while developing innovatory teaching and research programmes and activities. High priority is given to postgraduate research training with expansion envisaged of the existing set of taught masters programmes, providing major pathways into research degrees.
Post Summary
This permanent lectureship in Political Science is a full-time position. The School wishes to make an appointment in the area of the politics of developing countries, in the subfields of comparative politics or international relations. The ideal candidate will have an approach to research that complements the Department of Political Science’s existing strengths in comparative and institutional analysis.
Background to the Post
This vacancy arises as a result of the Political Science staffing plan designed to grow the size of its staff, as well as to add to its capacity in the area of the politics of developing countries. It is expected that the lecturer will play a role in developing new undergraduate and graduate-level courses.
