About the conference
----------------------
For 12 years the BPPA conference has served as a forum for philosophy
postgraduates to gain experience in presenting and discussing philosophical
ideas at a high level. Many participants of the BPPA conference have the
intention of
pursuing a career in philosophy and having a paper in the BPPA adds to their
philosophical studies as well as to their research profile. Despite
being designed for
postgraduate submissions, papers accepted for the BPPA conference have
always undergone a
formal review process. Consequently, the BPPA conference is a significant
academic event.
The BPPA conference's remit is a wide one. The BPPA conference considers
submissions in any area of philosophy, broadly construed. A key aim of
the conference is to bring together new researchers working in diverse
areas and
traditions of philosophy. Papers on any philosophical topic are
therefore selected for
presentation on the basis of quality alone.
The BPPA conference has acted as a fist step to providing postgraduates
with a competitive research profile for job applications made later in
their careers. Publication in a refereed conference proceedings is a
valuable addition
to a new researcher's CV. Through the help of College Publications, based at
Kings College, a pre-proceedings at least will be made available.
In 2009, the BPPA conference will be hosted in London for the first time, by
the philosophy department at Kings College London. The wide range of topics
researched by academics and postgraduates within a small area of Central
London makes it an ideal location for the BPPA conference both
academically and
socially.
