Postgraduate Opportunities in Philosophy at Cardiff University
All programmes are available to students planning to study either full or
part-time:
MA in Ethics and Social Philosophy
Through this course students have the opportunity to explore areas of
Philosophy such as Ethics, Philosophy of Feminism, Marx, Medical Ethics,
Social and Political Philosophy, The Frankfurt School, and Philosophy of Law.
MA in Analytic and Modern European Philosophy
Through this course students have the opportunity to explore areas of
Philosophy such as Philosophy of Language in the Two Traditions,
Contemporary Themes in Analytic Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind,
Wittgenstein, Knowledge and Perception, Philosophy of Science and Philosophy
of Law
MA in History of Philosophy
Students have the opportunity to explore areas of Philosophy such as the
Perspectives in the History of Ethics, Contemporary Themes in Analytic
Philosophy, Marx and Knowledge and Perception.
Each degree comprises 4 taught courses, a course in research methods and a
dissertation of 15,000-20,000 words on an approved topic.
PhD
We offer a full range of expertise, but the following areas are of
particular supervisory strength:

. Ethics (especially Philosophy of Medicine, Environmental Philosophy, and

. The Interface between the European and Analytic Traditions in Philosophy

. Social and Political Philosophy including Black Political Thought
Philosophy at Cardiff provides a stimulating and friendly environment in
which to pursue research on a broad range of philosophical topics, including
both "Continental" and "Analytic" philosophy and Applied Ethics. We have a
large cohort of postgraduates including approximately 20 MA students and 30
PhD Students. Students are encouraged to participate in all research
activities including our seminar series and reading groups.
